Mobile Data in Korea: Choose What You Actually Need
Decide whether you only need internet or also need a phone number and SMS. That choice matters more than the eSIM brand.
1. Data-only is enough for many travelers
Maps, translation, messaging and most web browsing only require mobile data.
2. A phone number can still matter
Some bookings or local services may ask for a reachable number, even when formal identity verification is not required.
3. Do not buy data expecting identity access
Mobile data does not unlock every domestic Korean service. Treat phone verification as a separate compatibility question.
4. Activate before you urgently need it
Install and save the setup instructions while you still have reliable Wi-Fi, then confirm the connection after arrival.
App rules, payment flows and transport details can change. Use this as a practical starting point and confirm critical details before you travel.
